The Bollywood actress is also known as Sush to the media and was born in Hyderabad city of Andhra Pradesh which is based in India. Sush was crowned as Miss Universe in the year 1994 and later on appeared in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films apart from modeling.
Sushmita’s personal life
Sushmita Sen was born to Shubeer Sen and Subra Sen who hailed from a Bengali background. Shubeer was an Indian Air Force wing commander and now is a retired person. Subra Sen was fashion artist and a jewellery designer by profession, but now she has left the profession and has settled as a house wife.
Sushmita Sen has a brother named Rajeev Sen and a sister named Neelam Sen. Sushmita was born at Mother Teresa Hospital in Hyderabad. She was later on accompanied to New Delhi where she grew up in New Delhi.
As her father was an air force commander, Sush pursued her school and college education from Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and studied English as her main subject. Though she had a plan to take up journalism, she dropped from the middle of it.
Sushmita was linked to Salman Khan, Nagarjuna and then Randeep Hooda. But the link ups were all media made and the actress leads a single bachelor life still. In the year 2000, she incidentally visited an orphanage and from there adopted a girl child and named her Renee.
Sushmita’s Miss Universe voyage
Sushmita had a passion to make it big in the movie industry, but she got a break as a model. Then in the year 1994, Sush participated in the Miss Universe contest at an age of just eighteen and won the title of Miss India and she overhauled Aishwarya Rai and stood up as the winner.
Later on Sushmita Sen represented in the Miss Universe title and won the pageant which was held in Manila which is located in Philippines. She became the first woman to win the title and was well applauded by the entire Indian nation.
Sushmita’s film career
Sushmita Sen made her acting debut through the film titled Dasthak which was in the year 1996. The movie was a super flop at the box office and so she had a bitter debut.
Ratchagan which was a Tamil movie featured Sush in the lead. The movie had Nagarjuna in the lead and was later on dubbed in Telugu as Rakshakudu. The movie was a major hit as it collected a huge amount of 17 crores at the box office.
In the year 1999, Biwi Number 1 was the movie which had Salman Khan in the lead and Sushmita played that character of a second wife to Salman. The movie was a super hit and made Sushmita win a film fare in the best supporting actor category.
In the year 2002, Sush played the character of Neha in the movie Aankhen which had Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal and the Bollywood Badshah Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. The movie was about a lady protagonist who trains three blind men to rob a bank on the force of Amitabh Bachchan. The movie was a hit and won critical acclaim for Sushmita.
The year 2004, Sushmita was featured in the movie Main Hoon Naa which had Shahrukh Khan in the lead. Sush plays the character of a Chemistry teacher in this film and flaunts her bare back with her saris minus their blouses. The movie was a major hit and won Sush good reviews at the box office.
From then on she is frequently appearing regularly, but is seen in the movies which lack the substance to make it big on the silver screen.
