Mithun Chakraborty to dance again

Friday, April 4th, 2008

The disco dancer is all set to dance for a peppy number again. Mithun Chakraborty will be dancing after seven years in director Ujjwal Singh’s Chal Chale. The music has been composed by Illayaraja. Mithun plays the role of a lawyer in the film. Mithun is excited about dancing in Bollywood again after seven years, though he doesn’t remember when he last danced in a film. He says, “I am looking forward to the song. The choreographer is from the South.” Mithun adds, “I was very impressed by the script. It is based on young students committing suicide because of academic pressure and the fear of examinations. I wanted to do the film since it had a social cause attached to it.”

The film also marks the comeback of yesteryear actor Manoj Kumar, who will play the role of a Supreme Court judge and Rati Agnihotri, who will play the role of a public prosecutor.
The film is about a group of friends who are preparing for their exams and on the first day of the exams, one of them commits suicide. Enraged by the situation, they file a case against the parents of the child and also a case against the government.

Salman Khan still shirtless

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Salman Khan is most well-known for going shirtless so it is surprising that he is now starting his own clothes line. It’s all for a good cause though. The actor who was sporting his hand painted T-shirt at a music launch recently, is planning to auction these shirts as and when he has them ready. The proceeds of the sale will go to the Salman Khan Foundation. Salman’s manager Vikas Sharma informed, “These shirts will be available at all leading stores. Salman has big plans for the future. We will keep you informed.”

Not many are aware that the actor spends his spare time at the Old Age Home in Bandra. The actor had earlier said, “I don’t save any money. But I hope when I grow old, there will be a Salman Khan in my life too.” He is also experimenting with reality TV and will be hosting a show for the first time on Sony, which will air some time in June. Sources inform that it was Salman’s witty and charming behaviour on the sets of Amul Star Voice of India Chotte Ustad that impressed the makers to approach him. His manager said that Salman plans to announce the show very soon.

Himesh Reshammiya working hard for karzzz

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Himesh Reshammiya has decided to do away with the entire music score of Subhash Ghai’s Karz and substitute it with swanky new compositions in his version of the film titled Karzzz. Though Reshammiya remains tight-lipped, Satish Kaushik, who is directing the film, is more forthcoming. Kaushik said, “We did plan to include some songs from Ghai’s Karz by Laxmikant-Pyarelalji. But then things started changing once we started shooting.
“The original Karz doesn’t have a title song, but Himesh has sung and composed a fabulous title song Ishq mere tere karz. He loves (Mohammad) Rafi saab’s Dard-e-dil and had the situation for our film. But then he created an entirely new track in place of Dard-e-dil.”

Apparently, the decision comes from veteran composer Pyarelal’s unhappiness over the way his contribution to the music of Om Shanti Om was treated. A hurt Pyarelal said, “Though I was initially reluctant, Vishal-Shekhar and Farah Khan were insistent. So I relented. Finally, after all my hard work there was no mention of my contribution in any of the film’s promotion and publicity. Not even in any of the credits for the songs in the album’s CDs when in fact, I had been asked to compose three songs, including the theme music for Om Shanti Om.” This experience has definitely soured Pyarelal towards the film industry. “It’s an industry I don’t understand any more,” said Pyarelal.

The actor, who is busy with the release of his debut directorial venture U Me Aur Hum proudly flaunted the T Shirt saying, “Doesn’t it look like it’s been done by a professional? When asked how he planned to celebrate his birthday the actor said, “I am too busy to celebrate my birthday. The first copy of my film will be out on Wednesday and I am scrambling to finish work on it.”  While the actor is busy with his work, his fan club in Indore celebrated his birthday with a havan. In the evening the fan club took out a big procession with his garlanded pictures.

“They have been doing it for two years consecutively. They have a havan every year and Ajay makes it a point to talk to them since there’s a religious ceremony involved in it. Ajay Devgan is a very shy person and doesn’t like to talk about his personal life.” informs a unit source. Zayed Khan likes action movies

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Zayed Khan’s getting his second wind in his short acting career after the mammoth success of Main Hoon Na in 2004 with Shah Rukh Khan. He’s been a part of projects that didn’t do very much for his career after that.

But now, the tide seems to have turned. Insiders who have watched the Apoorva Lakhia directed Mission Istanbul’s promos can’t stop raving about the film, particularly Zayed’s bespectacled look and performance in the zany cuts.

Mission Istanbul is Zayed’s next release and he’s attempted a very different look and departed from his earlier style of acting too. “I play a journalist in Mission Istanbul and it’s a character which I have enjoyed playing thoroughly. It’s got action, drama, restrain and a look that spells egdy — it’s a very contemporary film and a sign of the times we live in,” says Zayed. He’s gearing up to shoot a song for the film soon and promises it’s a great number.

Evey actor finds his own niche after dabbling in all sorts of genres and Zayed is no exception. “I think I am very comfortable in the action genre, but then, it’s too early to say. I have to experiment with a whole lot more to define my niche so to speak,” says the actor.

He’s also working on Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraj with Salman Khan. Yuvraj is up for release during Diwali and Zayed plays a rich, spoilt brat in the film.

“My character in Yuvraj is a very exciting one, unrestrained and full of life. I have enjoyed playing this role under Subhashji’s direction,” he says.

Well for Zayed, things certainly seem to be looking up on all fronts — be it professional or personal.

“It does seem like that. My son Zidaan makes me feel on top of the world and my films too are looking great. I just hope they meet with the success that I am hoping for,” he smiles

Akshay Kumar joins Big B

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Akshay Kumar was asked to be a part of the Unforgettable Tour 2008 of the Bachchans (Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya), which has been in the news for varied reasons, starting from some stars not wanting to join them on the tour to the dates being shuffled around. If one has to believe the buzz, then Akshay has agreed to be a part of the Canadian leg of the world tour and not the US simply because that’s what the organisers could afford.

Understandable given Akshay is one of the highest tax payers in the film biz, having shelled out Rs 26 crores in taxes this fiscal year. Naturally, he doesn’t come cheap. He’s got five films coming up — Yash Raj’s Tashan, Warner Bros’ Chandni Chowk To China, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakth Ishq, Vipul Shah’s Singh Is Kinng and Nagesh Kukunoor’s Eight By Ten. The actor is expected to amp his bank balance by a cool Rs 110 crore this year from these films. The underlying meaning here being, if you want Akshay, show him the money.
